Chreso comes from a Greek word Chrezo that means, “need”. Chreso Ministries was formally established in 1996 and registered as a non-profit making non-governmental organization as a company limited by guarantee. It was established to provide HIV counselling and testing, support to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) which includes treatment, the needy and provision of vocation training services to the general public.

MISSION STATEMENT

Chreso Ministries’ mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities of Zambia with life changing programs in the area of training and education, public health prevention and treatment, care and support programs all designed to bring about sustainable and self reliant development. We will serve by:

 

·      Providing VCT services as one of the major ways of HIV prevention and an entry point to care and support

·     Providing general psychosocial and pastoral counselling services

·     Providing HIV/AIDS education and awareness campaigns in schools, churches, companies, prisons, and public forums.

·     Using the media to reach as many people as possible through well designed TV dramas and commercials and using creative print media to educate people on different social and health vices in the community.

·     Providing state of the art treatment programs both in the area of ARVs and the general clinic through our well established mobile and on-site clinics

·     Infiltrating the Lusaka based prisons with all public health services that those outside prisons are enjoying.

·     Providing vocational and entrepreneurship training free of charge to PLWHA, street kids, orphans, widows, and women; and to the general public at a fee all aimed at poverty reduction, empowerment and capacity building.

·     Providing continued care to orphans and vulnerable children with more emphasis being put on orphans left by our patients who died.

·     Impacting Lusaka with a chain and network of motivated community health volunteers who specialize in education and awareness, home based care, community sensitization, social mobilization and ARV treatment adherence.
